A week or so ago I attended a workshop at the Concept Design Academy in Pasadena, CA. Khang Le was there doing a demo on environment painting. Now, in a way i already knew most of the things he was trying to teach and point out. But just seeing him do a demo in his style and to see his work method was a real treat. He works just like Craig Mullins which is amazing. So, if it does remind you of some Khang elements thats probably why, I was contemplating adding in a few airballoon ships but that might be too much. Treat it as a homage?
I did this painting during the Thanksgiving weekend and randomly working on it here and there constantly having it up on my monitor. It's not quite at a finished level, but I'd say its a real tight thought out speed paint. At this point the weekends over and I don't think i want to work on it anymore. I think the real exercise in this one was just to get better at atmospheric perspective and composition.
I may go back and add more detail into this someday...soon.
